International youth exchange - Media cottage

SHORT OVERVIEW

ORGANIZER

Youth centre Kotlovnica is a non-governmental, non-profitable organization which was founded in 2004 in Kamnik, Slovenia to encourage young people to be active in social life.

PROJECT

The multilateral youth exchange “Media cottage” is a project within the Youth in Action program and will take place on the mountain of Velika planina near Kamnik, Slovenia. The main theme of the project will be intercultural dialogue through multimedia workshops (video, photography and internet). Participants will get a basic technical knowledge on how to use media to express their ideas and learn how to perceive media from a critical point of view. We will “spice” it with many activities in the nature on a fresh winter mountain air.
Workshops will begin with a short theoretical part. Then participants will have to create short movies and photo stories based on they own ideas about intercultural dialogue, stereotypes, etc. Video and photo groups will work closely together and prepare the material for the web page group. There will be a kind of reality show based on interesting games and tasks.
We are planning an excursion around the mountain, to the town and to the spa. After the exchange participants will present their work as an exhibition, movie and web page.

PARTICIPATION

We will accept 7 participants including the group leader from 5 European countries (max 42 people altogether). Participants must be between 18 and 25 years old. There is no need to have a special knowledge of photography or video as you will be trained during the project. It is welcomed that to bring you own digital camera or camcorder (compact is just fine).
Be aware that the project will take place on the mountain in winter! Make sure to bring proper clothes as well as hiking gear (worm clothes, boots, gloves, a cap, scarf, etc.) and be prepared that hygiene options (like fresh water every day) is very limited and it depends on the weather conditions!!!

TIMELINE

The youth exchange will take place from 9th till 16th of December and will last 8 days (including travel days). First day, the 9th of December is planned to be a meeting day with evening activities with project presentation and to get know each other. Lunch will be included. The last day, 16th of December is departure day after the breakfast.

COSTS

Participants will receive 70% reimbursement for travel costs as it is in the program. Reimbursement will be done during the project. Accommodation and food will be provided by the organizers.
